Plastic Surgery Is Sometimes Necessary

By: Ricardo Gibson

Many people have a mindset that plastic surgery is for the vain. These same people are surprised to learn there are many different types of plastic surgery. Reconstructive and cosmetic are the two general breakdowns.

Reconstructive plastic surgery is not what most of us would think. It is not liposuction or a facelift. It is surgery done to fix a physical ailment such as burns on the skin. The goal is to return the body to as normal a state as possible.

Reconstructive plastic surgery is actually very common. It is often done after the repair of serious trauma to hide scars. It can also be used during the reattachment of lost appendages and even limbs in certain situations.

A closer look reveals the field of reconstructive plastic surgery is actually very large. Cleft palate repair fits the classification as does breast reconstruction, microsurgery and contracture surgery to name only a few.

Contrastingly, cosmetic surgery is performed in order to alter the appearance of a body part on a personal basis. The majority of people seeking cosmetic surgeries usually wish to address some part of their body that bothers them to no end. It could be a crooked nose, fat around the thighs or wrinkles to mention only a few items.

The female gender makes up the majority of elective patients, but men are joining in ever growing numbers. Women tend to go for face, breast and fat removal procedures while men go for tummy tucks, hair transplant and facial work as well.

The key to having a successful plastic surgery experience is to follow a strict checklist. Find a certified plastic surgeon you like. Do extensive consultations with him or her. Use before and after software to get an idea of what the result will be.

So, what is this going to cost me? Well, you are going to have to pay on your own if it is elective surgery. Get a written cost of every expense so you know what is involved. If the procedure is reconstructive, your health insurance should cover it.

We are all cost conscious in our lives. When it comes to plastic surgery, you really do not want to shop by price. Quality surgeons expect to be paid accordingly. This is about your body, not a fashion item. Get the best you can afford.

Reconstructive and elective surgery are just two sides of the same coin. Plastic surgery has come a long way in the last 30 years. Whatever you reason for inquiring about it, it is a valuable area of medicine that is doing miracles.
