Legendary Gay Porn Star Al Parker

Pornography legend Al Parker was born on June 25, 1952. He was raised in the Boston area, and was born Andrew Okun. Not only was he a gay American pornography star, he was also a renowned producer and director of adult films. At 5 feet, 7 inches tall, Al Parker was best known for his impeccably groomed beard and mustache, his thick lustrous hair, and his dynamic male physique.

Al Parker moved to California in the 1970s, and met Richard Cole, who was by then a veteran in the business. He was also more than ten years older than Al Parker, and he introduced Al Parker to the sexual business now known as gay pornography. After he arrived in California, Al Parker worked for Hugh Hefner at the Playboy Mansion as a butler. His career in gay adult movies started when he was noticed by Rip Colt, who was the founder of Colt Studios. It was he that gave Andrew Okun the name Al Parker.

Al Parker first started making adult films when he signed with Brentwood Studios, and he made a dozen 15 minute loop films that were shot on the old 8 mm film reels. Al Parker and Rip Colt had a van that is now famous that they used for sexual pick ups during their trips across the country that they would frequently take. They had even put a bed in the back of the van to use. In 1980, the two men formed Surge Studios with the intent of producing Al Parker films and adult movies.

Al Parker, being an aspiring actor, also wanted to be a producer and director. Surge Studios began making larger themed features in addition to the little film loops that were popular during that time. Many of the movies were shot out of Al Parkers own home in Hermosa Beach, California. Al Parker is known as one of the firs heroic advocates of safe sex in the porno industry, and his studio was one of the first to publically support the use of condoms in porno films when AIDS first appeared.

One of Al Parkers partners died of AIDS in 1986, and he began a relationship with Canadian porn star Justin Cade. However, Al Parker himself died from complications of AIDS in 1992, at the young age of 40. By the time that he had died, Al Parker had become known as not only an advocate for AIDS awareness, but also as a symbol of free sexual expression and liberation.
